How to Become Involved
There are great ways to get involved in making colleges, like USD, a great experience for everyone. It can be overwhelming to know all of the ways to help out or how to increase the awareness on mental health, so here are a few ways to spread the word all over campus!

USD Media and Journaling
USD media and journaling is a campus based news source that discusses important topics relating to content from USD or college related information. USD media and journalism has connections with its students through radio, television, and news articles. They are sharing information all over campus with new articles, radio segments, and news reports weekly!
Using such wide broadcasting sources can easily get the word out about mental health. Pitching ideas to journalists to do segments on students' mental health and letting students know that it is ok the feel overwhelmed by the college life can create such a positive impact to a student. Making people more aware of the reality of mental health can help motivate them to wanting to create a change on campus. If you have an idea on how to bring light to mental health awareness on campus, teaming with media and journalism can help get your idea in front of thousands of people!
Social Media Usage
Social media has boomed in the past decade. Over 98% of college students have or use social media (Hall, 2025). Social media usage is a great way to get information out to students on a college campus. Not everyone tunes in to radio shows or reads news papers, but everyone looks at their phone throughout the day. Whether they are on Tik Tok, Instagram, or Snap Chat, information is being exposed to college students throughout the day. Most schools have pages dedicated to events happening at their school which a majority of their students are followers of. Making posts that support mental health awareness or are promoting reminders to take care of yourself can be a great way to spread mental health awareness.
The spread of mental health awareness does not have to be through the school page. You can take action into your own hand and spread the word in your own way. There are lots of mental health dedicated pages all over instagram, and reposting or sharing these to places your friends can see can also help bring awareness to mental health. A sublte reminder can go a long way!

Bulletin Boards and Dorm Reminders
Freshman are some of the most overwhelmed of all college student due to the change of lifestyle. Dormitory doors or bulletin boards are an easy way to display little mental health reminders as they are leaving their dorms. A subtle reminder of "you are doing great" or "you can do this" can increase someones spirits as they walk to class, and help remind them that they are loved and supported on campus! Becoming involved in projects like this can help spread lots of positivity all over campus.
